I JUST returned from seeing Dwele and Leela James. It’s been a rough week, but Maxwell, Dwels and Leela pulled me through! Once the review is done, I will post the link for y’all. I guess the title above can relate to all of the topics I am about to cover. First of all, I have not forgotten about Old School Friday. I just may stick it in at the end for good measure.
Then of course, there is the memorial of MJ to discuss. To be honest, I am not going into a full blown discussion here. It was such a heavy day and the memorial was done tastefully and without spectacle. At first I said to myself, perhaps this is not what he would have wanted. But I think I was wrong. Seeing that he would do anything for his fans, I think that was a fitting way to say goodbye and he was smiling from the heavens above.

The man of the hour performed on Wednesday for the CBS Early Morning Show, which should be airing this morning, July 10th (or aired already by the time you read this). After being L-A-T-E for a bit (he shared on Twitter that his car was detained for honking in a no-honk zone. Ooookay…), that was forgotten once Maxwell hit the stage. He dove right into “Pretty Wings” and our quintessential favorite ”Sumthin’ Sumthin.” Realizing that he had to feed the ravenous women who were patiently waiting, he delivered with my FAVORITE right now, “Bad Habits,” and an a cappella version of “Ascension” which turned the park into an outside dance floor. I was close y’all and that will most likely be the closest I will get to him…lol I will add the pics to the Flickr feed soon. Oh and be sure to check out the amazing review of BLACKsummer’s night over at my peeps Soulbounce. And like the breeze that blew him in, in his grey suit, raspy voice along with the killer falsetto, he was out. Needless to say, I was swooning for the rest of the day. Still am thank you very much.
Wednesday night, I headed over to SOB’s to check out a show that my girl Fiona Bloom from the Bloom Effect was doing. It was a record launching party for Miz Metro, with invited guests. Miz Metro did her thang, however I can honestly say she is not my cup of tea. But she sure is for a lot of people out there! The place was packed! Her band was tight and that’s what I enjoyed out of her set. But throughout the entire show, one artist REALLY stood out for me. A sixteen year old MC named Nero. Have mercy that child has SKILLS! I let out a hearty laugh when he started about “back in the day” regarding Pete Rock and CL Smooth. Really dude? Back in the day? You were ONE when the song was released! (how cute!) Anyhow, once he got on the mic – he shut it down! Pouncing across the stage, popping and locking meticulously and cutting it up lyrically like it was nobody’s business! Let me just say this, wherever he is performing, I will surely be there. He was serious about his craft and you can hear it. Some dudes who are concentrating on getting their “swag ooooon” can take notes from this cat. I’m just sayin…
And lastly, Old School Friday’s theme is: My Wedding Song. Boy, this one is going to get me in trouble. I have three – and here they are, with their explanation.
First: This was my fav, but it is my girl’s fav as well. So we see it like this, the first one to walk down the isle gets to use it. Done deal.
Second: I SWORE up and down with another friend that this was my song and I had the same above convo. Well, I lost. She’s going on about 6 years of wedded bliss:
And lastly: I am a HUGE fan of this artist. She is my female Maxwell and this song brought me to tears when I saw her live. I am NOT sharing this song! :
Check the rest of my OSF fam here. Have a wonderful weekend!
Tha Connoisseur

Okay, I’m giving Maxwell my Monday and I from what you guys are saying I will not be disappointed.
I like that – Maxwell Monday’s!
I think you will enjoy it, please let me know what you think!
You know you ain’t right…you pulled out the Mint Condition, Anita Baker, and MAXWELL!!!???
Wrong, just wrong…but oh, that felt good! LOL…
And Hagar…listen to him hit that falsetto ONE TIME, and you will understand…it’s honey molasses for your ears!
I sure did!! I know it was an overdose of goodness, but you know you LOVED it!
Good good stuff, especially Anita and Maxwell. The Mint Condition is new to me. Happy OSF!
Thank you!
Mint Condition is wonderful! If you liked that song, you should look into some of their stuff. They have a great catalogue of music.
You can be detained for honking now? WAs he close to a hospital? Hmmmm. LOL.
You get to do the coolest stuff!
Thanks for RSVPing and coming to my Childhood Dream Wedding. Hope you had a good time and didn’t get too hung over from all the cherry Kool-aid, lol!
I have NO idea girl! That’s what he tweeted, but all I know he was late – BUT he made up for it!
Anita is timeless.
Can you please explain the big deal with Maxwell. Don’t knock me out, just explain why so many women and men love him?
Happy OSF
She sure is.
LOL Promise I won’t hurt.
I can only tell you from my perspective.
Personally, Maxwell is an amazing artist of quality. I think his songwriting and production is above par, always has been. He has always had his own sound and he continues to grow in “his” world. I respect that.
And of course, the fact that he’s sexy, suave, smart, and ever so HUMBLE would most likely be other reasons why he is loved so damn much!
Now see, Fortunate is hot enough to make you run out and get married again. LOL
PREACH! LOL
Loving that picture of Maxwell. That must have been absolutely amazing to see him live for the early show taping! I felt the energy through the television screen.
Thank you! I have more to add, hope you check the rest when they are up on Flickr.
The show was GREAT! Energy was crazy and he was forever the gentleman. Just perfect!
Good picks re: wedding tracks. L.O.V.E Anita Baker!
Mine’s gotta be Jazzyfatnastees ‘Unconventional Ways’ for obvious reasons
lol
I’m somewhat ’sat on the fence’ about Maxwell’s newest after several more listens … it seems to have divided opinion elsewhere too. I think it’ll go down for me as a good, but not great album.
Anita is my GIRL! Going to see her at the end of the month, can’t wait!!
The JFN are SERIOUS! Love the choice of song babes (that is a nice track).
I really do like the album, right out the bat I loved it. And I swear, I am NOT being biased! lol
